Overview

Languages: English

Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years or equivalent experience

Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years

On site: Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.

Work setting: Dental practice

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for dental examinations
  • Prepare plaster models and moulds
  • Supervise dental assistants in their health care functions
  • Train other dental laboratory assistants
  • Cast gold or metal alloys for bridges and denture bases
  • Order dental and office supplies
  • Perform administrative functions for the dental laboratory
  • Prepare dental instruments and filling materials
  • Maintain and order supplies
  • Mould wax over dentures set-up
  • Perform reception and clerical duties
  • Sterilize and maintain instruments and equipment
  • Educate patients concerning oral hygiene
  • Finish metal framework of dentures
  • Polish teeth and clinical crowns and apply fluoride and sealant
  • Schedule and confirm appointments
  • Perform intra-oral duties
  • Take and develop X-rays
  • Record dental procedures performed on patients
  • Polish and buff dentures

Credentials

  • Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses
  • Registration with provincial or territorial authorities

Experience and specialization

Equipment, systems and controls experience: Medical and biomedical equipment and systems

Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment, work under pressure, tight deadlines, repetitive tasks, physically demanding, manual dexterity, attention to detail, ability to distinguish between colours, sitting, combination of sitting, standing, walking
