Your Opportunity:
The Critical Care unit at the Grey Nuns Hospital is a fast-paced, dynamic unit with a welcoming interdisciplinary team who provide exemplary care to the critically ill patient. Critical Care at this site includes the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Coronary Care Unit (CCU). The Grey Nuns Hospital is also the Northern Alberta Vascular Centre which specializes in vascular surgery and the ICU provides support for these complex vascular patients that may require ICU post operatively.
Description:
The Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) provides effective clinical leadership, functional supervision and, as needed, performs front line Registered Nursing duties. The AHN promotes and models leadership competencies by demonstrating good judgement and critical thinking skills, and developing and maintaining strong nursing practice in the designated scope of practice. The AHN fosters team effectiveness, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, communicating effectively and seeking to resolve staff issues. The AHN develops a supportive environment for multidisciplinary learning. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required.
- Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurse of Alberta (CRPNA) is required.
- Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications:
- Current critical care experience (5 years).
- Charge experience in the critical care environment.
- Completion of a Critical Care certificate or OPACCA (Critical Care Orientation Program).
- Strong interpersonal, stress management and conflict management skills.
- Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills. Excellent assessment, organizational and documentation skills.
- Candidates must demonstrate the ability to identify own learning needs, seek guidance in professional practice when deficits occur and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth and development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
- Prior leadership experience preferred.
- Current competency in CRRT, IHD, TPE preferred.
