Emergency Medicine Physician - Sturgeon Community Hospital (Locum)

Responsibilities/Duties: Alberta Health Services in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is inviting applications from Emergency Medicine Physicians to join the Department of Emergency Medicine in the Edmonton Zone. There are up to two FTE (0.5 FTE or 1.0 FTE) in locum positions available with a start date of July 1, 2026 and end date of June 30, 2027. Shifts will be 8 hours, covering days/evenings/nights/weekends. A full-time schedule generally represents 10-12 clinical shifts per month.

The Facility: The Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert is an innovative facility, delivering primary health care and community-based services and a 24-hour emergency department. The emergency department provides 24/7 service with onsite lab and Diagnostic Imaging. Admitting services on-site include: Internal and Family Medicine, critical care unit, intensive care unit, General, Orthopedic, Gynecologic Surgery, Obstetrics. Outpatient Clinics include: Intravenous Therapy, as well as a range ambulatory clinics. It is an exciting opportunity for Emergency Physicians interested in building a foundation that promotes the health and well-being of the community. This is a large facility offering physicians an opportunity to work with multi-disciplinary teams that are focused on improving patient health outcomes.

Qualifications: The candidate will have exceptional communication skills and a passion for quality and patient safety. They will be considered a strong clinician by their peers. The successful applicant will have, or be eligible for, certification in Emergency Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada or the College of Family Physicians Canada (FRCPC or CCFP-EM) and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Residents must be eligible to write the appropriate exam at the next sitting. ACLS, PALS, and NRP competency are required. All physicians hired to the Department of Emergency Medicine are required to have current ACLS and PALS certification or certification must be completed within 6 months of hire.

Salary/Benefits: Remuneration is fee-for-service.
