Permanent Emergency Department Physician

The West Nipissing General Hospital boasts clean, modern facilities with excellent support services. We have 25 Acute Care beds, 6 ALC beds, 19 Complex Continuing Care and 1 Hospice Suite in addition to our 24-hour Emergency Department. Our 48-bed Interim Long-Term Care Unit is managed by our LTC Co-Medical Directors.

We offer a range of services with after-hours on-call provided in:

• Diagnostic Imaging (CT scanner)
• Respiratory Therapy
• Physiotherapy
• Discharge Planning
• Lab
• numerous visiting specialists including cardiology, urology, otolaryngology, psychiatry, and gastroenterology, etc.

There exists an excellent referral relationship between our facility and the full-service North Bay Regional Health Centre, only 38 km to the east, and the Health Sciences North (Sudbury), 100 km to the west. Referrals are also made to Ottawa and Toronto, when necessary.

Job Summary

The ED Physician will be responsible for assessing all visits presenting to the Emergency Department during the shift, responsible for the rare calls from Nursing Care Unit (NCU) and Complex Continuing Care (CCC) after 2300 hours until 0700 hours regarding patient care. The ED is staffed with (2) RNs, (1) RPN, and a second on-call physician for back-up if needed. In addition, the ED is also staffed with a Physician Assistant from 0930 - 1730 on weekdays. The ED physician will see, on average, 55 patients per 24-hour shift.

Compensation

The ED Physicians are funded through the Emergency Department Alternative Funding Agreement (ED AFA). The ED AFA offers an hourly rate ($174.85/ hour) along with a 10% return on shadow billing for regular shifts with a 25% return on shadow billing on statutory holidays.

Hours

Flexible scheduling with both 12 hour and/or 24-hour shifts available.
