Community Information:

If friendly passionate people, wide-open spaces and endless blue skies make your heart skip a beat, then your future belongs in Alberta's Special Areas, a unique municipal area covering approximately 2.1 million hectares in the south central part of the province.

The Village of Consort is the largest community located within Special Areas No. 4. With a population of 739, it is considered the trading hub of the area which encompasses the Village of Veteran, Hamlets of Monitor, Kirriemuir, Altario and Compeer and the Special Areas for a total service area of approximately 2421 people.

Education is a top priority in Consort and area. High-speed internet, video and teleconferencing mean an abundance of opportunity and services available. Quality programming for children begins with playschool and continues into the schools. Starting at kindergarten through grade 12, classrooms are equipped with the latest technology providing students a high level of education which enables them to be competitive in all facets of life.

Recent community initiatives saw the building and development of an accredited daycare which in its first year has been wildly successful. In addition, the community built and landscaped two beautiful new residences to house its medical personnel. Finally, recent multimillion dollar enhancements of the local community recreation facilities and Senior's Lodge with shovel ready plans to build an accompanying Community Drop Inn Center complete the community picture.

The residents of Consort value the arts and pursue an artistic culture. They have a fine arts centre, a recognized dance academy and access to music lessons which include piano, guitar and band. The local theatrical group puts on a dinner theatre once a year drawing visitors from near and far for an evening of entertainment.

Recreational activities play a vital role in the region. The local Sportex sees the hockey players, figure skaters and curlers staying active in the winter months. As well there is bowling and bingo for all ages. Spacious sports grounds provide opportunity for ball, bunnock and soccer games. During the hot summer months you can hear the shrieks of laughter from the children enjoying the cool blue water in the outdoor swimming pool.

An abundance of wide-open spaces makes the area a mecca for those who love the outdoors and nature. At Gooseberry Lake Provincial Park, located just north of Consort, you can enjoy the scenic trails while bird watching or just relaxing. You won't want to miss the Gooseberry Lake Rodeo in June. Adjacent to the park is the Consort Golf Course, an impressive, family-friendly nine-hole grass golf course with a clubhouse and for the young and young at heart, you will find refreshing fun at the Eccles Spray Park.

Consort and the Special Areas have everything a person could possibly need: technology, great people and a beautiful open landscape. All that's missing is you and when you move to our area, you are more than a physician. You are a valued member of our community.

Deep pride and committed community spirit is what defines the uniqueness of Consort. Being fourth and fifth generation, many residents, farmers and ranchers still live by the pioneer spirit,…Joan Bousquet
