Responsibilities/Duties

Alberta Health Services and Primary Care Alberta are inviting applications from motivated physicians interested in providing family medicine services for populations with high medical and social needs at the East Edmonton Health Centre Family Care Clinic. There is a 0.5-0.8 FTE position available (flexible 3-4 days per week) with a start date as soon as possible. Within the clinic framework, there is a significant focus on marginalized populations, immigrants/refugees, and patients with various mental health and addiction issues. A minimum of 2.5 days per week will be expected to provide adequate continuity of care. New grads are welcome, and we provide a strong, approachable team of members who come from a variety of clinical backgrounds capable of mentorship.

The clinic offers access to a well-resourced interdisciplinary primary care team, including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, social workers, a dietician, a respiratory therapist, and an in-house pharmacist for teaching. Nurse practitioners also manage patient panels in parallel. On-site laboratory and X-ray are available. Clinic operations are fully computerized with the launch of Connect Care. Other co-located programs at EEHC include Public Health Services and the Community Perinatal Program.

This is a combined clinical practice and teaching environment, and successful candidates will be encouraged to hold clinical appointments in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry. Successful candidates will also be expected to become members of the Edmonton North Primary Care Network.

Qualifications:

Successful Candidates will have a functional knowledge of resources and challenges in Alberta’s primary health care system. This knowledge will be supported by the candidate having completed a two-year Family Medicine Residency and by ongoing community primary care experience.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to teamwork and peer relationships. The successful candidate should be committed to fulfilling clinical and non-clinical duties as a representative of Family Medicine.

The successful candidate must currently be certified with the College of Family Physicians of Canada and have medical licensure in the province of Alberta. This position is NOT eligible for AHS sponsorship of a College of Physicians and Surgeons Practice Readiness Assessment.

• Compensation: Physicians currently are paid on an annualized ARP or alternate relationship plan at a base rate of $1575/day (net) consisting of about 7 hours of direct patient care (and 2 hours of paid admin time). Outside of this base rate, $20 per hour are held for administrative costs, and, in previous years, about half is returned to physicians at the end of each fiscal year dependent on the costs of running the program, which can vary from year to year. Of note, ARP rates also are subject to the same year-to-year increases as put forth in the 2022 AMA agreement.
