Family Medicine Physician with Community Perinatal Program (24-EEHC-FAM-CPP-49)
Description
Responsibilities/Duties
Alberta Health Services is inviting applications from Family Physicians to join the Community Perinatal Program (CPP) team. The Community Perinatal Program currently has 5 family doctors providing services at two sites. The recruited physician will be required to work at our clinic that is located within Woodcroft Public Health, at Westmount Shopping Centre. The typical model involves providing one clinic half-day per week, within the hours of 0845 – 1630. The specific day is negotiable.
Our clinic provides compassionate, comprehensive, and evidence-based pregnancy and postpartum care to equity-deserving patients. Family Physicians and Public Health Registered Nurses provide prenatal care, labour and birth, and postpartum care to women who have high needs related to social determinants of health and who do not otherwise have access to prenatal care. Care is provided for patients throughout the pregnancy and for up to 8 weeks postpartum. Our preferred candidate will have delivering privileges at either the Royal Alexandra Hospital or the Misericordia Community Hospital, to facilitate local care for our patients. The Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) and the Misericordia Community Hospital are tertiary hospitals where family physicians work alongside obstetrics and gynecology and multiple subspecialties including onsite NICU. However, physicians with delivering privileges at any hospital within the Edmonton Zone will be considered.
Edmonton Zone hospitals are affiliated with the University of Alberta and serve as important training facilities for residents and students. The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have completed a two-year Family Medicine Residency and have a demonstrated interest in providing care to marginalized patients who face significant challenges in accessing care. They will have superior interpersonal skills and be a proven team player. The ability to work congenially within a group setting is an absolute pre-requisite. The successful candidate should be committed to fulfilling the clinical and non-clinical duties required as a family physician member of the CPP team. We are particularly interested in candidates who are experienced in and embrace trauma-informed practice.
The successful candidate must be certified with the College of Family Physicians and of Canada and have medical licensure for the province of Alberta.
We utilize Connect Care as our sole EMR (electronic medical record). All hospitals in the Edmonton zone also use Connect Care. Physicians will be required to be trained as Connect Care users; training will be provided prior to start date.
