Surgeon (General Surgery) - Medicine Hat Regional Hospital

The Department of Surgery, section of General Surgery is seeking a General Surgeon at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Interest with expertise in Colorectal, Bariatric, Breast or Laparoscopic Surgery is not required but would be an asset.

As the successful candidate you will:

• Establish and maintain a 0.75FTE General Surgery practice; a 0.75FTE practice is defined as providing commensurate shifts in keeping with other equivalent practice FTEs as assigned by the medical leader on site in the clinical service;
• Provide inpatient consultations at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital to the Zone Clinical Department of Surgery;
• Provide community consultations within Medicine Hat;
• On call responsibilities as required. Call days are a service based orientation and will be up to a maximum of 1:4 per 4 week cycle.
• Approximately 3 OR days per 4 week cycle and approximately 2-3 endoscopy days per 4 week cycle;
• Provide clinical and endoscopy services in Brooks (or South Zone Rural Site as appropriate) approximately 1-2 times per month.

Reside in and have as primary residence, the community or immediate surrounding area of Medicine Hat.

Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the services;

Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies;

Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues as a member of the Zone Clinical Department of Surgery;

Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Zone Clinical Department of Surgery.

Qualifications include an MD, a Fellowship in General Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and eligibility for licensure in the province of Alberta.

The successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or by opening their own practice. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.
