Job Summary & Requirements

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care within a delivery model in accordance with the philosophy, policies and standards of care of the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and all relevant legislation.

Education:

  • Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current BCLS CPR essential
  • ACLS preferred
  • Coronary Care 1 essential
  • Coronary Care 2 essential
  • Advanced wound care/Ostomy education preferred

Experience:

  • Sound knowledge of nursing process and responsibilities of profession
  • Functions independently within scope of practice
  • Minimum 2 years current surgical experience preferred
  • SSDU/CCU/ICU/PACU experience preferred
  • Advanced wound care and ostomy experience preferred
  • Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) experience preferred
  • Multimodal pain management experience preferred
  • Spinal Epidural experience preferred
  • CCNC(C) preferred

  • Sound problem solving, communication (oral and written), conflict resolution and decision making skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Computer literacy in current software applications
  • Demonstrated commitment to the professional growth and development of self and others
  • Demonstrated commitment to the concepts of Continuous Quality Improvement and Customer Service
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Demonstrate understanding of scope of practice within the CNO three factor framework
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to perform all essential duties of position description which includes the ability to lift and move patients, pushing, pulling, bending and stooping
  • Flexibility to accommodate changing assignments and workloads
  • Demonstrate ability to adapt to a fast paced and changing environment
  • Demonstrate commitment to concept of Continuous Quality Improvement and customer service
  • Ability to learn about, from and with other members of the patient care team to foster a strong Interprofessional model of care
