Job Description

Position Overview: Reporting to the Manager of the Family Birthing Centre, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning implementation and evaluating nursing care and practice activities in a multidisciplinary family centered level 2c care environment. The RN is responsible for maternal and newborn assessments and care during the ante-partum, and post-partum period as well as care for pregnant person and their families during labour and delivery. You will be able to participate in continuous education opportunities and workshops to help further your professional development and growth. You will be able to bring your passion for perinatal nursing to the department while advocating for patients and their families.

What You’ll Love About SHN

  • New to Perinatal Nursing? Your customized orientation is geared towards your learning needs. On average, the length of your orientation will be approximately 6 weeks. After your orientation is complete, our charge nurses and team continue to support you with your new skills, such as fetal health surveillance closely for the first six months and beyond.
  • Ongoing Skill Advancement: In-house courses and workshops to advance skills like Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Fetal Health Surveillance (FHS) as well as ongoing support with more OB education, simulation activities, drills and other in class sessions will promote your professional development.
  • Benefits Coverage: Full-Time Permanent includes comprehensive medical and dental coverage and a defined pension plan through HOOPP. Part Time will receive allowance in lieu.

Requirements

  • Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse in good standing
  • Current BCLS
  • Current Certificate in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) or willing to complete within 3 months
  • Fetal Monitoring Course completion or willing to complete within 3 months
  • Breastfeeding Course or recent experience in this area
