Summary Of Duties

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre has an opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse with current orthopaedic experience including knowledge of Joint Replacement Surgeries, pre-operative assessment, and familiarity of the post-operative discharge process. The individual must have strong clinical assessment skills and organizational abilities. Provides pre and post-operative patient education. Collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members, completes and reviews POP Nursing assessments and related documentation to assess and follow up on any outstanding patient issues. Actively participates in process improvements, educational activities, and research. Provides physical assistance with patient transfers, relief coverage on patient care units, and the out-patient department.

Qualifications/Skills

• Current Registration with Ontario College of Nurses
• Current BCLS Certificate
• Health Assessment course essential
• B Sc. N. preferred
• CNA Certification in orthopaedics preferred
• 5 years current surgical experience in orthopaedics with skills in Pre-Op and Post-Op care and Patient/Family teaching
• Proven leadership skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with patients, families, and members of the multidisciplinary team
• Commitment to patient-focused care concepts principles
• Knowledge of and ability to effectively use organizational resources
• The ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment is essential
