LOCUM Orthopedic Surgeon – Westlock
Description
Alberta Health Services – North Zone, and the Westlock Healthcare Centre, is currently looking for an Orthopedic Surgeon to join the existing team of Orthopedic Surgeons and offer locum based surgical support within the community of Westlock.
A minimum of 4 to 6, 24-hour call shifts per month are available along with a weekly orthopedic trauma room operating day. A biweekly ambulatory care outpatient follow-up clinic for fracture/surgery follow-up is also available. The successful candidate would be expected to provide orthopedic on-call coverage for one weekend a month (with an option of 2 weekends per month) and be responsible for any postoperative patient care/follow-up, within the approximated 2 days per month.
Orthopedic trauma room time could be scheduled in 4-week blocks with a weekly Wednesday trauma room day for weeks 1 through 3, and a Friday trauma room scheduled for week 4 (with weekend on-call coverage provided by the locum on week 4 at the site). Alternatively, alternating biweekly Friday and Tuesday orthopedic trauma room days could be accommodated if this 4-week scheduling pattern were more serviceable.
Candidates must possess a community orthopedic skill set and be comfortable with basic community orthopedic trauma. Typical basic orthopedic trauma would include hip fractures, ankle fractures, wrist fractures, and tendon injuries (quadriceps, patellar, biceps, Achilles).
Required Qualifications:
- Current Alberta Practice Permit to practice in the advertised position (proof of to be included with application).
- Have certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification (RCPSC);
- Recent and relevant experience, within the past year, in all areas of practice required, as Most Responsible Physician;
