Description

Alberta Health Services (AHS), Department of Child Health, in partnership with The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is inviting applicants to apply for a Locum General Pediatric Most Responsible Physician Unit 201.

Responsibilities:

  • A General Pediatrician leads patient medical care as the Most Responsible Physician (MRP) for inpatients and day patients within a collaborative care model, including a Nurse Practitioner, consulting physicians (Pediatric Physiatrists provide consultation in day-to-day patient care related to rehabilitation issues and goals) and a rehabilitation-focused healthcare provider team.
  • MRP roles include direct patient care during the day Monday – Sunday, as well as weekend, holiday and overnight on-call coverage.
  • Core patient care activities include patient admissions and discharges, handover between MRPs, in-house patient rounds, participation in team/family conferences and supervision of learners (Monday-Friday).
  • MRP rotations are typically scheduled in 2-week blocks, with longer blocks an option.
  • Evening, weekend and holiday on-call coverage is provided by a group of Unit 201 pediatrician MPRs.
  • Continuity of care between MRPs is supported through the nurse practitioner role.
  • Physicians are expected to fulfill all aspects of service delivery and participate in advancing quality and safety.

Candidates must have superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to teamwork, process building and peer relationships.

Interested applicants must hold an MD, must have completed a residency in Pediatrics, be in good standing with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta or be eligible for licensure in Alberta.
