Clinical Pharmacist - Express Scripts Canada
Description
The primary role of this position is to develop, manage, and deliver Express Scripts Canada pharmacy benefit management services and programs. The Clinical Pharmacist provides leadership to the Prior Authorization Program and collaborates with cross-functional committees to deliver high quality and clinically sound products and formularies. The role is responsible for contributing specialized clinical knowledge to the direction of existing and new products.
Essential Functions
- Provide strategic direction and clinical expertise to guide the implementation, communication, education and maintenance of clinical programs and formularies
- Serve as a clinical thought-leader on the Drug Plan Validation Committee, providing knowledge transfer to Express Scripts Canada customers (insurance carriers and third party administrators) on complex clinical topics
- Provide leadership to the Prior Authorization program and review Prior Authorization requests, including gathering medical information, making coverage decisions, and communicating with patients, physicians or pharmacists as required
- Interact with internal and external customers to provide insights on pharmacy practice, drug trends, medical advances and legislation
- Ensure accurate, thorough, and timely documentation of patient status within the operations systems. Comply to ESC policies and procedures to safeguard personal information (PI) and personal health information (PHI)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy; license to practice pharmacy in a province of Canada
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in direct patient care, drug evaluation, and/or drug information activities
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite of tools, with database experience a plus
- Knowledge of the private/public reimbursement or managed care experience would be considered an asset
- Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, courteously, and tactfully
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills to identify opportunities to optimize reimbursement and improve health outcomes
- Effective facilitation and presentation skills
- Knowledge and experience in areas of Neurology/Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatology, Dermatology, Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, or Oncology
- Must be self-empowered and self-managed, but also must exhibit teamwork
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and adapt in a dynamic fast-paced work environment
