Pharmacy Assistant (Full-Time, Permanent)

Location: Calgary, AB

ARTARx’s vision is to create a unique pharmacy environment in Canada that supports its pharmacy team members to practice to the full extent of their clinical scope without the retail/commercial burden of a traditional community pharmacy. This is the only pharmacy of its kind in Canada as it is the first vertically integrated pharmacy that looks after the health needs of its own plan members.

ARTARx will enable the Alberta Retired Teachers’ Association (ARTA) to combine plan design with self-administration of the benefit program with the ability to render pharmacy services directly to members in an environment where proceeds from the operation are fully reinvested into the plan for the benefit of the health of its members.

Overview of the position:

Reporting to the Manager, Pharmacy Operations, the Pharmacy Assistant will collaborate with other pharmacy staff on the performance of day-to-day dispensary and distribution operations and the maintenance of the over-the-counter department sales and services offered by the pharmacy. The Pharmacy Assistant will perform responsibilities at ARTARx pharmacy that meet or exceed the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) Standards of Practice as well as deliver the highest quality customer service to ARTA members and all pharmacy patients. The Pharmacy Assistant will assist in the preparation, packaging, and organization of medication deliveries, which will require exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and critical thinking skills. This role’s support to the Pharmacists and Technicians is essential to maintaining our quality standards. What you will do:

  • Support the achievement of customer health goals and business growth with superior customer service.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy team members in the dispensing operation of ARTARx in accordance with ACP’s Standards of Practice and Provincial legislation.
  • Assist in the receiving and data entry of customer prescription orders, including gathering and documenting all necessary information. Maintain accurate patient and drug information files.
  • Prepare medication for compliance packaging clients, including blister packaging.
  • Support the packaging, coordination, and communication of delivery or pick up of prescription orders.
  • Organize and support pharmacy deliveries, including preparation and route scheduling, liaising with drivers to rectify concerns. Ensure customer privacy in distribution of medications and provision of clinical services.
  • Receive, restock, and maintain prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) inventory levels.
  • Assist with routine inventory counts and manage expiring product. Support OTC sales and front till responsibilities.
  • Ensure the pharmacy area is professional in appearance.

What you will have:

  • Previous Pharmacy Assistant experience in community or hospital pharmacy.
  • Computer proficiency in KROLL Pharmacy Management system is essential.
  • Experience with Scriptpro vial automation systems an asset. Experience in a central fill, or mail-order pharmacy an asset.
  • Experience with coordination of delivery to customers an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently, and as a member of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
