General Adult Psychiatrist - Central Services

Description

Mental Health, Recovery Alberta is inviting applications for a part-time outpatient psychiatrist to join our team at Community & Addiction Mental Health - Central Site at the Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre in Calgary, Alberta.

CAMHC Central psychiatrists provide psychiatric assessment, interdisciplinary consultation, and longitudinal follow-up to the broad range of moderately to severely mentally ill patients from the Central catchment area and beyond. Central Clinic receives a complex mix of patients often presenting with a combination of mood, psychotic, anxiety, and personality disorders, as well as addictions. Psychiatrists work with a full interdisciplinary team which brings significant diversity and strength to the support of our clients, including therapists/case managers with backgrounds in Nursing, Social Work and Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Clinical Behaviour Specialists, and Outreach Workers able to meet patients in the community and foster linkages to community resources.

Central Clinic has adopted the Recovery Model, which emphasizes active movement towards recovery-based goals and facilitating effective transfers to community partners (e.g. GP follow-up and other services) when clients have stabilized. We operate within episodes of care—rather than undefined longitudinal relationships—and focus on goals that can be achieved during each episode. Most patients participate on a voluntary basis, although we also have patients on Community Treatment Orders, and liaise with programs such as Community Extension Team and PACT. Psychiatrists work in a team environment where most patients are co-managed with therapist/case managers who will see patients regularly between psychiatrist appointments. However, there are occasional cases where the patient may be referred to or followed on a physician-only basis. The duration of psychiatric treatment is generally at the psychiatrist’s clinical discretion; however they may receive input from the Clinical Medical Director and Clinical Supervisor as needed.

We are looking for psychiatrists interested in providing individual assessments and follow-up for patients for a minimum 18-month duration. This position is ideal for a psychiatrist with a broad range of clinical interests and who appreciates working with a team of skilled mental health professionals; the applicant’s dedication to research, advocacy, and other CanMEDS competencies will also certainly be recognized. The successful applicant will be able to commit to at least 2 half-day clinics per week (occurring on different days) and will have their FRCPC designation currently or imminently. Applicants interested in committing to multiple half-days or full days per week, up to 0.8 FTE, would be welcomed. Please note that all CAMHC psychiatrists participate in the on-call psychiatry roster for an area hospital, which also involves supervising the medical students and residents staffing these ER sites.

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

Must read, write, and speak English.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and Permanent Residents will be given priority.

Only suitable candidates will be contacted for an interview.
