We are inviting applications for two full-time Academic Psychiatrist positions in the General Psychiatry Division within the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioural Neurosciences (DPBN) at the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, McMaster University. These faculty appointments are part of the Clinician Educator track in the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster. Financial compensation for these roles will be provided through mechanisms such as fee for service arrangements within the General Psychiatry Program, located at our partner hospital, St. Josephs Healthcare Hamilton.

The appointees of this position will hold a full-time academic appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at an academic rank appropriate to their credentials and experience. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience working in Psychiatric Emergency Services, with demonstrated interest and expertise working in Dual Diagnosis, Neuropsychiatry, and with patients and families in an older adult inpatient setting.

As the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences has a strong research and educational mandate, the successful candidates will have demonstrated commitment and skills in clinical education with all levels of learners and will provide leadership and training to future Psychiatrists, as well as an interest in clinical research activities.

The appointees to this position will participate fully in all appropriate departmental and divisional administrative, educational and research committees and meetings, and will contribute, collaborate, and consult to other programs departmentally.

Applicants must be licensed or eligible to attain licensure in the Province of Ontario and hold Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons specialty certification in psychiatry or an equivalent designation.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences in the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University is a multidisciplinary Department consisting of MD and non-MD faculty working within a unique regional network of psychiatric services that integrates two general hospitals, a network of community services, a 24-hour regional psychiatric emergency service, an innovative shared-care mental health program, and outreach services for children, adults and the elderly. Qualifications:

  • These positions are only open to current St. Josephs Healthcare Hamilton staff
  • The successful candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario and hold Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons specialty certification in psychiatry or an equivalent designation.
  • The candidates will have demonstrated interest and expertise working with patients with acute medical and surgical illness with co-morbidities, treatment refractory anxiety, and primary psychotic disorders in the older adult population
  • Preference will be given to applicants with 8-10 years practice experience.
